JEE Advanced 2026: IIT Roorkee announces exam date

The organizing institute, IIT Roorkee, for JEE Advanced 2026 has released the detailed eligibility criteria for candidates who wish to appear for the examination next year. As per the notification, a category-wise distribution list would be prepared to select only the top 2,50,000 qualified candidates from all categories in the JEE Main 2026 BE/BTech examination.
The institute has also restated the requirements pertaining to age, the number of attempts and Class XII qualification. The exam is scheduled to be held on Sunday, May 17, this year.
Candidates need to be within the top 2,50,000 in the CRL of JEE Main 2026 BE/BTech paper to satisfy Criterion A1. A category-wise rigid proportion is implemented in the JEE Advanced shortlisting: 10% GEN-EWS, 27% OBC-NCL, 15% SC, 7.5% ST, and 40.5% OPEN. A horizontal reservation of 5% in all the above-mentioned categories is provided to PwD applicants.
The total, if there are "'tied'' positions, may be marginally more than 2.5 lakh, according to IIT Roorkee.
Category-wise distribution (JEE Advanced 2026 Shortlist)
Open : 96,187 + 5063 PwD, GEN – EWS : 23,750 + 1250 PwD, OBC-NCL : 64,125 + 3375 PwD, SC : 35,625 + 1875 PwD, ST : 17,812 + 938 PwD
According to IIT Roorkee, the OCI/PIO(I) candidates will not be eligible for any category benefits if they apply in this category unless it is OPEN-PwD. They must strictly meet the eligibility for OPEN categories.
Also, a candidate can attempt the JEE Advanced exam only twice in two years; hence, previous attempts must be within this period.
