Schools closed in Delhi & NCR

School officials had to extend winter holidays and close schools to keep students safe from the cold snap that affected a significant portion of northern and central India.
Many states throughout northern and central India have also declared holiday closures until January 15, 2026, due to persistent extreme cold, fog, and falling temperatures.
All public and private schools in the National Capital Region, including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and Gurugram in Haryana, are to remain closed until January 15, 2026.
Due to low temperatures that are significantly lower than seasonal averages, schools have closed for the sole reason of ensuring the safety of elementary school-aged children on their way to school in the early morning mist.
On the academic calendar of the school district, winter break extends until January 15. The two main reasons cited by the Directorate of Education to close schools were due to heavy fog and cold temperatures in the early morning hours.
