The ceremony marked an occasion of patriotism and pride among the participants in the event. Faculty members, students, staff, and other members of the university community were present in these celebrations.

In his speech at the occasion, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of DTU, Prof. Prateek Sharma, wished everyone present in the gathering on their Independence Day. In his speech, he emphasized on the meaning of independence in today’s age of technology, innovation, research, and global transformation.

According to Prof. Sharma, modern-day independence goes well beyond just being politically independent. He stressed on the importance of technological independence of the nation and how it is linked closely to strategic independence of the nation. In his opinion, it is important for India to be ready and confident about the future and thus needs to create good technological base for itself. He stressed that technological independence is a must for the economic prosperity, security and strategic power of the country.

In this context, he appealed to technological institutions like DTU to make a huge contribution towards making India a technologically self-reliant nation. According to him, there should be an emphasis on the efforts in areas like space technology, semiconductors, renewable energy sources, defense technology and other areas of innovation.

The Vice Chancellor appealed to the youth at DTU to break away from conventional thinking and to concentrate on creating indigenous technological solutions for the problems faced by the nation.

He emphasized the need for creating high-end laboratories and ecosystems where ideas could be converted into reality. He asked the university community to boost research, innovate, create more patents and develop technologies that can bring about a tangible change to the country’s economy.

Prof. Sharma appealed to the students to look at their education not just as a platform for making careers but as a way of serving the nation. He inspired the students to be responsible innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs and professionals who would contribute to the technological and economic growth of the country.

Talking about the duties of free individuals, he appealed to the members of DTU community to work for the fulfillment of the dream of India which would shape its own destiny. He also reminded them of the sacrifice of numerous freedom fighters and asked everyone to become worthy of those sacrifices through their contributions to the nation.
