The Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi, has issued an order for conducting remedial classes for Class 9, 10, and 12 students during their summer vacation in government schools in the national capital. As per an official notice by the School Branch of the Department of Education, special classes for students would be conducted in May 11 to May 23, 2026.

The move aims at strengthening conceptual understanding of students in crucial subjects and providing academic support. As stated by the education department, the remedial classes would be held to provide extra support to academically weak students.

The classes will run from Monday to Saturday, following the schedule detailed in the circular. In two-shift schools, remedial classes will run separately in different blocks. The students will have three periods of an hour each from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM.

Science and mathematics will be the primary focus of study for children in Classes 9 and 10. Nevertheless, according to academic standards and performance assessment, the head of the school (HoS) can opt for other subjects too. The head of the school (HoS) will decide upon the remedial teaching subjects for the students of Class 12.

As for the circular, it also states that in order to ensure an obvious enhancement in results, the teachers should provide personal assistance and attention to the needy students.

The school is obliged to prepare the class time table prior to the start of the summer vacation period as per DoE instructions and should send it to the concerned DDE Zone Office. All the parents and the students should also be duly informed of this through all the available means.

Attendance is necessary for remedial classes, and online attendance is to be recorded. Furthermore, parental consent (NOC) from the students attending the classes is necessary.

Moreover, the schools were instructed to keep their libraries open for independent study and book lending purposes even during the holidays. Furthermore, the principal would take responsibility for ensuring the provision of safe drinking water and other requirements for students.

If regular teachers are not available, then the remedial classes can be conducted by contract teachers or visiting teachers under the circular. In accordance with CCS Leave Rules, if regular staff teachers join the program during summer vacation, they will be granted Earned Leave.

The district and zone-wise DDEs have been instructed to ensure proper conduct of the remedial lessons and also visit schools at least twice during the summer vacation period.
