The thousands of aspirants taking the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in Delhi-NCR region have become increasingly concerned following the release of city intimation letters by National Testing Agency. Many applicants have received exam center locations that lie out of reach of their respective cities, despite the fact that they had chosen cities such as Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida at the time of applying.
This unexpected arrangement for examination centers has left the applicants as well as parents quite annoyed. Only a few days before the test, the situation has posed various logistic problems for the test takers.
"Vibhor Bhardwaj, who is a CUET aspirant, says, 'I made sure to select Delhi and nearby cities to keep traveling out of the equation, but my center has been allotted in Jaipur, which is more than 200 kilometers away from Delhi.' Students have urged authorities to look into their complaint, as such grievances have flooded social media platforms.”
According to experts, there might have been too many candidates applying for the examination and not enough seats available in preferred cities. However, students say that if the allocation does not meet the desired location, the whole idea of choosing becomes redundant.
The National Testing Agency has been advised by the educational community to take immediate steps to address the issues raised. There are calls for greater transparency in the distribution process or even a rethink on the center allocations.
Safety and convenience for the students have also been brought up by the parents, especially for those having to travel long distances alone. A parent commented that "it is not only about inconvenience but also how the mind-set of the students taking the test is affected.”
As they await the possible solution, students are requested to plan their trips well in advance and keep themselves updated on any changes that may arise.
Considering how logistical problems can hinder the success of one of India's most crucial entrance exams, it is evident that there is a need for an efficient testing system.
