Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer today announced that nine British institutions are opening campuses in India, marking a significant advancement for global education. The University of Southampton is at the forefront, having already opened its campus in Gurugram and is about to receive its first class of students. At the CEO Summit in Mumbai, both leaders were giving speeches. 
In keeping with the goals of India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this action will improve educational links between India and the UK.

In addition to providing domestic educational options for Indian students, these institutions will support collaborative research initiatives between the UK and India and promote industry-academia collaborations to boost innovation and improve skill development. "Prime Minister Starmer has brought the biggest and most powerful delegation from the education sector to date. Nine UK colleges are now planning to open campuses in India, which is a huge joy. According to PM Modi, Southampton University's Gurugram campus was just opened, and the first class of students has already enrolled. By setting up campuses in significant Indian cities, five UK universities are broadening their reach internationally.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved the University of Bristol's plans to establish a new Enterprise Campus in Mumbai, with plans to start accepting students in the summer of 2026. This comes after the opening of the University of Southampton's campus in Gurugram.
