Indian Students Shines on Global Stage

Indian Students Shines on Global Stage : India has again proved its brilliance in the two of the most renowned secondary level competitions, showing another instance of intellectual brilliance of Indians on a global level. Four gold medals were bagged by the Indian students in the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2026 and further, India won two gold medals and four silver medals at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2026 held in Shanghai, China. It is yet another proof that India is amongst the best nations of the world in terms of international science and math education.

An all-gold performance was achieved by the chemistry team at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where students from 93 countries participated. India came joint first in the overall standings, one of the best performances ever for the nation in the history of the event.

Among the four gold medal winners were :

  • Kabeer Chhillar
  • Harshit Singla
  • Sandeep Kuchi
  • Debadatta Priyadarshi

As the members of the Indian team performed exceptionally well in the chemistry theory and practical tests, testing their scientific thought process and problem-solving skills, all of them won the gold medals.

The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), an institute that works under the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), took the responsibility of selecting and training the Indian team. The national Olympiads of India are held by TIFR.

Strong Showing at International Mathematical Olympiad

India was successful again at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2026 which took place in Shanghai, China, as six participants from the team bagged two gold medals and four silver medals, ranking seventh among 117 countries.

The medal winners include:

Gold Medalists

  • Aarav Gupta (Delhi)
  • Abel George Mathew (Karnataka)

Silver Medalists

  • Three other Indian team members who also secured silver medals.

The Olympiad saw participation from around 666 of the most intelligent mathematicians in the entire world. The performance of the Indian team is indicative of the steady success that India has seen in the field of international math competitions in the last few years.

India's Growing Academic Excellence

The dual success in both chemistry and mathematics reflects on the growing ecosystem of India that is geared towards producing talent in STEM education through rigorous national level tests and training camps to compete with the best in the world.

Educators and experts feel that these successes are due to the efforts made by the country to invest in scientific education, mentorship, and talent scouting. The repeated performances at the International Olympiads have also motivated many students to choose science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as their career.

While congratulating the students who won the medals, the educators and officials appreciated the hard work put in by the students, mentors, parents, and training institutes to bring glory to the nation. The outstanding performance also demonstrates the increasing competitiveness of India in global educational challenges.

By winning four gold medals in chemistry and six medals in mathematics, India has yet again proved its mettle by showcasing that its young minds have what it takes to excel in international challenges.
