Gate 2027: Application process for GATE 2027 started for Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) which gives candidates who are appearing for postgraduate admissions, PhD courses and few Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) employment a chance to get into the examination. Application form for GATE 2027 was issued on September 2, 2026, on GATE online portal.

Indian Institute of Technology Madras has been declared as organizing institute for GATE 2027. Aspirants who want to take Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 can fill up the form. Last date for normal application will be September 27, 2026, and for late application it will be October 5, 2026.

Starting of the GATE 2027 application procedure is a significant event for engineering, technology, science, architecture, commerce, arts & humanities students who want to further their education by taking one of the most prestigious national level exams in India.

As per the official GATE 2027 website, it is necessary for Indian candidates to register themselves through DigiLocker. It is recommended that the candidates make or update their DigiLocker account before going forward with the registration process. GATE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for GATE 2027 now go beyond the typical disciplines of engineering and technology. Students who are currently in their third year and above of their undergraduate studies, or those who have graduated from any government-approved course in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities, will qualify for the examination.

There is no upper age limit for GATE 2027, and candidates can take the examination several times in their lives. According to the official FAQs on the GATE website, third year students enrolled in courses like BA, BCom or BSc are also eligible for the examination.

Thus, eligibility for GATE 2027 has been widened to include several other candidates in addition to engineering students.

GATE 2027 Exam Pattern and Test Papers

GATE 2027 exam would be held for 30 test papers. Students can appear for one paper or two papers, based on the two-paper combination that would be allowed by the organizing institute.

The examination involves several disciplines, some of which are Computer Science and Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Aerospace Engineering, Architecture and Planning and many more.

An important addition to GATE 2027 examination is Robotics and Automation (RA). Also, some syllabi and paper codes have been updated in sections like XE, XH and XL. Students are recommended to refer to the GATE 2027 syllabus and not just stick to previous years' study material.

GATE 2027 Exam Date

The dates of the GATE 2027 exam have been fixed for the 3rd weekends of the month of February. The GATE 2027 exam will take place on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027.

The date of the release of city allotment notice has been fixed as January 4, 2027, whereas the date for downloading of admit card has not been fixed yet. The result of the GATE 2027 will be declared on March 19, 2027.

It is advised that the applicants keep visiting the website of GATE for updates regarding the test centers and admit card.

Instructions for Filling GATE 2027 Application Form

While filling the application form of GATE 2027, candidates are advised to enter all the required details. As per the guidelines of the official site, the name of the candidate in the application form should be the same as the name on the photo ID which will be presented at the time of exam.

In addition to it, applicants are required to submit their photograph and signature. The photograph should be a passport size color photograph with white background and signature should be as per the prescribed size.

Students are suggested to submit the form long before the date of submission.

Why GATE 2027 Is Important for Students

GATE qualified candidates can apply for a number of Master’s and PhD courses at institutions that have been funded by the Ministry of Education, as well as various other government bodies. In addition, GATE qualification can help you secure financial aid for certain postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

Moreover, a number of Public Sector Undertakings recruit employees based on their GATE scores. According to the official GATE 2027 website, there is a list of organizations such as BHEL, GAIL, HAL, IOCL, NTPC, ONGC, POWERGRID, SAIL, among others, that use GATE scores for recruitment. However, a mere GATE qualification will not ensure you a PSU job since it depends upon the eligibility criteria of the respective organization.

GATE 2027: What Candidates Should Do Now

Now that the registration process for GATE 2027 has begun, candidates must ensure that they are eligible and have an updated verified DigiLocker account along with the current syllabus of the subject they have chosen.

Candidates must also ensure that they wish to appear for one or two papers and make sure that the combination they choose is valid or not. As the GATE 2027 syllabus has changed, students must accordingly prepare themselves according to the new syllabus and examination pattern.

The normal registration date for GATE 2027 ends on September 27, 2026. The last date for submission of applications for candidates missing out on the regular date will be October 5, 2026.
