New Delhi, Nov 4 (PTI) According to the QS University Rankings released on Tuesday, five Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and Delhi University were among Asia's top 100 universities.

Among the top 100 Asian universities were IIT-Delhi, IIT-Madras, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Kanpur, and IIT-Kharagpur.

According to a statement from London-based QS, "seven Indian institutions rank in the top 100 in QS World University Asia rankings, 20 in the top 200, and 66 in the top 500."

According to the report, 36 Indian institutions rose in the rankings compared to the previous year, 16 stayed the same, and 105 dropped. "The expansion of the rankings is associated with the greater volatility observed in this year’s results."

In total, 41 Indian universities are in the top 80th percentile. For PhD-holding employees, India leads Asia, it continued.

For the fifth year in a row, IIT-Delhi, which came in at number 59 this year, was named the top Indian university.

The QS World University Rankings: Asia evaluates universities using 11 indicators that are specifically designed to capture the subtleties of the region and set it apart from the QS World University Rankings.

The data now shows how higher education has changed in India. India has developed system-level capacity that is both locally empowering and globally relevant in barely five years after the National Education Policy was introduced. According to Jessica Turner, CEO of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the inclusion of more than 130 Indian universities in this year's Asia Rankings is a clear indication of both breadth and depth.
