BRICS Summit 2026: All schools in Delhi would be closed on Friday, September 11, 2026, in light of the preparations made for the upcoming 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit to be held in the capital city.
As per an official notification from the Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi, the holiday is applicable for all those schools which come under its jurisdiction – namely, government, aided and recognized unaided private schools.
Why are schools closed on September 11?
The 18th BRICS Summit will be held in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, 2026. The movement of leaders from around the world will cause extra security measures and traffic restrictions due to which the government has taken a decision that schools should remain closed on the day prior to the summit.
This decision has been taken to ensure easy planning for security purposes.
Which schools will remain closed?
September 11 is a holiday that will affect schools in the Delhi Directorate of Education, which include:
• Government schools
• Government aided schools
• Recognised unaided private schools
The system of circulars issued by the Education Department contains official instructions for school operations in Delhi.
Three-day break for students
September 11 being Friday, the students will have a three-day holiday because the school holiday will fall together with the weekend holiday of September 12 and 13. Nevertheless, different instructions may be issued separately about examinations, assignments, computer sessions, or whatever academic schedule may be disturbed by this holiday.
The parents and students are encouraged to look for specific instructions from the school sources.
BRICS Summit brings heightened security to Delhi
As part of the BRICS Summit, a good number of international leaders are anticipated to visit New Delhi. Preparations for security and traffic management have been ongoing within key event locations and hotels where visiting delegates will stay.
The summit preparations will create challenges with traffic flow in various parts of the city, thus making the decision to close down schools important in order to reduce daily traffic congestion.
The BRICS Summit is slated to take place in New Delhi from September 12–13, with other events planned during the summit.
Notice to Students and Parents: September 11 will thus be declared as a school holiday for schools under the notice from the Directorate of Education.
