On  March 5, 2025, the Delhi Education Department announced the first draw of lots for entry into schools under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category for the 2025–2026 academic year. Ashish Sood, the minister of education for Delhi, announced the release of the lots. The process will be fully transparent and carried out in front of parents and media representatives, the minister added.

According to the Education Minister, "The draw of lots for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) took place at the Old Secretariat in the presence of parents."

"Additionally, considering the limited space at the venue, multiple television screens will be installed to ensure better visibility for parents attending the event," he stated. The education minister added that a standard SOP has been created for the procedure and that the computerized lotto will be televised to guarantee openness.

Students from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Disadvantaged Groups (DG), and children with impairments are granted 25% of the seats as part of the admissions procedure. Under the EWS category, students whose household income is less than Rs 5 lakh per year are eligible for admission.  These families ought to be able to show their income certificate, which was provided by the Delhi Revenue Department. Families with Antyodaya Anna Yojana or Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration cards are also qualified. youngsters from SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), orphans, transgender youngsters, and HIV-affected individuals are all included in the disadvantaged group category.
